Sol Okarina is a pioneer, mixing calypso, Antillean rhythms and Colombian sounds with an electronic beat. Calypso, Soca, Soukus, Cumbia, and electropop sounds are combined with her formidable voice and accompanied by the Cuatro as the foundation of this authentic and uplifting style. She was born in Venezuela and raised in Colombia.
Sol Okarina has performed on stage in many countries such as Colombia, Germany, the Netherlands, Ecuador, Uruguay, Mexico, USA, and the UK, having been invited to participate at Glastonbury Festival 2019. Now, in 2020, Okarina is preparing new music including collaborations with artists in Colombia, Germany and Israel.
Sol Okarina has publisehd two albums: Planet4 and Submergible, along with many singles. Her music has been included in many different national and international compilations, such as LAMC SAMPLER 2010, BEST OF COLOMBIA 2017, and more. Sol was also part of the representative Colombian Delegation at WOMEX 2017 (World Music Expo in Europe)!
Her music has been featured in several films and documentaries, such as NAT GEO's: MUSIC VOYAGER COLOMBIA, LECCIONES PARA UN BESO, and THE FIREFLY - LA LUCIËRNAGA. Besides her work as a singer and songwriter she has also worked as a musical producer and composer, creating original music for films and TV shows. She even won best soundtrack at the Latino Film Festival in Trieste, Italy for her work on the film “La Eterna Noche de las Doce Lunas”. PLANET4 is her latest album and was made as an inspiration, after extensive travel within indigenous and spiritual communities. It is a statement about humanity and our environmental situation, intending to generate some inspiration, awareness and consciousness. In this work, with her unique voice in combination with the Cuatro llanero, she has created an album with an authentic sound and diverse rhythms; connecting in an organic and natural way and matching instrument and voice, as a perfect couple .
